Gerard,
It seems that the Usability Initiative has a related, but differing goal
from our work. We have not worked with them in any direct way. We are
definitely able and willing to collaborate with them. We are interested
in the cultural aspects of Wikipedia, but our current work deals with
very specific interface modifications in Wikipedia. This current study
is very preliminary. It seems likely that we will expand support of our
interface modification to other languages if the results show that the
tool is helpful.

Hoi,
Did you talk to the people of the Usability Initiative ? Are you able
and willing to collaborate with them? Are you able and willing to
study the impact of other languages, scripts and cultures to the
usability of Wikipedia?
Thanks,

Hello,
I am a researcher in the GroupLens lab (
http://grouplens.org) at the
University of Minnesota. You might recognize our previous work in
Wikipedia like "Creating, Destroying, and Restoring Value in
Wikipedia"
(
http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~reid/papers/group282-priedhorsky.pdf
<http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/%7Ereid/papers/group282-priedhorsky.pdf>).
As part of our continuing work within Wikipedia, my colleagues and
I are
conducting an academic (non-commercial) user study where we have
developed an interface modification that is designed to help users
work
together more effectively by changing the interface for reverting
other
editors. You can help us complete this study by installing and using
our modification.
If you choose to participate in the study, you will be automatically
assigned a Wikipedia gadget that will consist of a subset of the
modifications we have developed. As part of the study, we will be
logging your usage of the tool (ie. when you are reverting other
editors).
Throughout the study, we will be available for tech support and bug
fixes. There will be a survey at the completion and the entire tool
will be made publicly available.
