Hi,
I run MediaWiki 1.16.0, and I wanted to predefine a timezone for my
users with the $wgDefaultUserOptions directive. For other options,
this works fine, but for the time correction, it seems to be simply
ignored. I tried using hours, minutes, as well as locations
("Europe/Berlin"), to no avail.
Anyone can give an advice?
Thanks,
Florian
Those running MW on Mac OSX have a problem, as the php version shipped with XCode is still 5.3.1, which doesn't work with MW > 1.14. With the entropy php no longer being updated AFAIK, this means that Mac-based sites need to use something like MacPorts, compile from source (which is apparently nontrivial due to other Apple-specific issues) or stay with 1.14 or earlier until Apple updates php via Software Update.
For what it's worth, I spoke to an Apple rep yesterday, who told me that Apple is aware of the problem, is working deploying php 5.3.3, and that they heard a lot of complaints about php based on problems with MW. He thought there would be an update "soon", after they finish their testing. So, I'm going to take the wait for a software update approach for now (I would have used entropy php if it was still being updated). The other interesting thing he told me is that issues get moved up Apple's priorities based on the number of tickets from Applecare. I would not have thought about complaining about XCode php on Applecare, but he assured me that that's the best way to make the wheel squeakier.

Apologies if this has already been asked. I've checked the discussion page
for the CategoryTree extension and it looks like the problem I'm having has
been reported but I can't see an obvious solution.
I'm running MediaWiki 1.16.0 . I've installed the CategoryTree extension and
it does seem to be working. The problem I have is that when there are no
subcategories under a category I still get an + symbol next to the category
when I think it should display an x symbol. When I click on the + symbol I
get the message 'no subcategories'. Also, when there are no subcategories
and no pages under the category I do get the x symbol but it's still
clickable and after clicking on it it turns into an + symbol. Only after
refreshing the page does it return back to a x. Basically I want my
categories to expand in the same way as the categories in MediaWiki.org at
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Category:Top_level . Has anyone had the same
problem as me? Thanks for your help.
Jim
Say, I noticed on Wikia one can make a user an administrator, even if he
has never logged in yet.
This exposes a security risk. A bureaucrat pre-makes some accounts for
future administrators, but before they establish accounts, somebody else
establishes an account with that name, and becomes an instant
administrator.
I'm wondering if the is a MediaWiki-wide bug, or just Wikia's.

When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the

people reading your mail. Instead, compose a new message for your post.
Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list,
which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are
posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the

avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic.

If I restart Apache everything clears up and starts working like normal. Has anyone seen this before? What could be causing this?
Thanks,

Hi
I am a total n00b to mediaWiki. I am writing a new extension to
dynamically generate an SVG file. I have written the extension and
copied the files in the right places.
But mediaWiki does not seem to pick up my extension. DO I need to
restart the apache server or something like that in order to make sure
my change in LocalSettings.php is picked up.
What I don't understand (and I do not think is documented very well )
is how does mediawiki know that the file LocalSettings.php has changed
and needs to be re-loaded.

I have attempted to export the Infobox template from Wikipedia by
going to the Special:Export page, typing in Template:Infobox in the
box labeled "Add from this category", and ticking all three boxes at
the bottom (ie. Include only the current revision, not the full
history; Include templates; Save as file
The problem is that I am not being prompted to save the XML file.
Am I doing something wrong? I tried using IE8 and Firefox in case it
was a browser issue, but the results are the same.
How do I get this export to work?
Thanks,
Sandy
