Dear All,
I'm writing a MW extension that runs R (www.r-project.org) code and
displays the results. More precisely, the code is run by another
program on another machine, the extension only passes the code to it,
receives the results, formats and displays them.
I defined a custom tag for this, everything between <rcode>...</rcode>
is evaluated as R code. So far so good. Now, what I would like to do
is having a single R session for the whole page, instead of creating
an R session for every <rcode> tag. Where should I store the extra
data for the R session? Optimally, the first <rcode> tag on the page
would create the R session, store it, and the rest of the <rcode> tags
would just use it. Then, when the page was rendered (or there was an
error), the R session would be closed, its associated data deleted.
I am sure that there is a good solution for this, as it is a quite
general problem. If you can point me to some extension that uses a
similar technique, that is also fine.
Thanks a lot,
Gabor

I'd like to change the logo (set by $wgLogo) according to the current
namespace. But how to get the current namespace? The only way I can see is
to call getNamespace(), e.g., in the Wiki.php of my wiki:
$ret = Title::newFromURL( $title );
...
$ret->getNamespace() != NS_SPECIAL
Is that the way? If so, how would I set "$ret" (in this case) to be the
title of the current page?
Thanks

Fatal error: Call to protected method ChangesList::insertDateHeader() from context 'NewsRenderer' in .../extensions/News/NewsRenderer.php on line 494
Savez-vous comment corriger cette erreur ?
Je vous remercie.
Cordialement,

Hallo together, after searching unsuccessful for a solution I hope
to get some help from you ...
I would like to have a link in my sidebar to change the language
of the menu (sidebar, instructions etc.).
I will not have another wiki in other language.
Thank you

Hi all,
I manage a private wiki for an organization whose users are both English
and French. They would like to be able to use some of the Date & Time
variable Magic Words, having the results displayed in the users'
language of choice. So, using {{CURRENTDAY}} would produce either
"Monday" or "Lundi", depending. I was rather surprised to see that just
changing my user's preferences did not force this translation
automatically, as it does for the interface and navigation links.
When my language preferences are set to either "En" or "Fr", using the
Magic Word {{LOCALMONTHNAME}} produces "August", invariably.
Do I have to create a new extension to handle this kind of
functionality, or should this just work and I am suffering from some
unknown pilot error?
Thanks,
John
I have a shared server account with Lunarpages that I have been using
for the past three years to host a fan wiki for a tv show. Everything
was running smoothly until about a month or so ago. It was a couple of
weeks after I had updated to Mediawiki 1.15 (I had been using 1.13
previously). I got a message from Lunarpages that index.php was using
too much of the server's processor power (spiking from 1.3% - 2.5%
cpu, the allowable limit on the shared server is 1% ).
They disabled the script until I could find a solution. There was a
fatal error that I noticed in my php error log:
[20-Jul-2009 16:57:40] PHP Fatal error: require() [<a
href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: Failed opening required
'{EDIT}//w/includes/parser/LinkHolderArray.php'
(include_path='/{EDIT}/w:/{EDIT}/w/includes:/{EDIT}/w/languages:.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php')
in /{EDIT}//w/includes/AutoLoader.php on line 582
Shortly before the incident, 1.15.1 had come out and it did have some
bugfixes so I upgraded, figuring the error may have been the cause of
the spike. After the upgrade, I noticed no more fatal errors. The
issue seemed to go away for a bit, until I got a notice a couple of
days later of another spike:
Average %CPU usage - 1.35
Average %Memory usage - 0.82
Average %MySQL usage - 0.1
{EDIT} 1.35 0.82 0.1
Top Process %CPU 50.0 [php-cgi]
Top Process %CPU 43.0 [php-cgi]
Top Process %CPU 34.0 /usr/local/php5/bin/php-cgi
/{EDIT}/public_html/w/index.php
Is my wiki just outgrowing the shared host? In the past 6 months my
daily averages have been ~15-31k hits amongst 500-1000 visitors. Any
ideas what I can reasonably expect Mediawiki to support while staying
under my host's 1% load (I'm not sure of their hardware....) Are
there certain questions I should be asking the tech support people to
try to narrow down where the issue lies?
Are there any configuration settings I should know about that could
minimize the load? I've already turned off all the ajax functions.
I really can't afford a dedicated server just for a hobby site, but
I'd hate to have to bring the wiki down. It'd also be a pain to find a
new host since I just this month paid for the next year of hosting.
Thanks for all the help you can offer.

Hi all,
at the moment I've got my wiki running with mediawiki 1.14.0 and Xampp 1.7.1
(PHP 5.2.9 (apache2handler), MySQL 5.1.33)
When I tried to upgrad to Xampp 1.7.2 last Friday, I ran into some problems with
the SelectCategory- and CategoryTree-extensions, so I made a new test-clone of
my production-machine (easy, because I'm using VMs), to get a clean test-machine
before trying again.
Xampp 1.7.2 comes with Apache 2.2.12, MySQL 5.1.37, PHP 5.3.0 and now I'm
wondering, wether it would be better to
- upgrade Mediawiki to the current version before upgrading Xampp
- upgrade Xampp first and get the extensions-problems solved before upgrading
Mediawiki
- upgrade Xampp first and get the extensions-problems solved without upgrading
Mediawiki
- upgrade Mediawiki without upgrading Xampp (at least for the moment)
- leave the whole system as it is
???
Has anyone here upgraded to Xampp 1.7.2 yet and are willing to share their
experiences with me?

Hi all,
I've got two wikis running on two different servers which are essentially the
same (one's the production-version, one's the test-version) for which I've
defined two different favicons.
The lines in LocalSettings.php are:
$wgStylePath = "$wgScriptPath/skins";
#$wgLogo = "$wgStylePath/common/images/fhbwiki2.jpg";
#$wgFavicon = "$wgStylePath/common/images/fhbwiki2.ico";
#der Wiki-Testserver bekommt ein anderes Logo; kawo 11.10.07
$wgLogo = "$wgStylePath/common/images/fhbwiki-test.jpg";
$wgFavicon = "$wgStylePath/common/images/fhbwiki-test.ico";
So far so good - the test-version of my wiki displays the test-version-favicon
on every page - exept Special:SpecialPages where the production-version-favicon
is used.
I've got no idea, where this favicons comes from.
I've even deleted the production-version-favicon, restarted xampp, killed the
cache, killed the browser - nothing works.
Does anybody have an idea where I could look?
Thanks!
Katharina
Hey,

Jeroen,
Have you looked at geonames? They have an impressive list of free web services (http://www.geonames.org/export/ws-overview.html).
I used them myself for a project 2 years back and its pretty good.

I don't know how acquainted you are with American politics, but let me tell you this: Google.com has been playing politics with their search engine, their tools, everything. They have rigged their searches to push politically conservative and religiously oriented sites to the bottom of the rankings--which is why my wiki never bears mention in any search on Google, but they bear plenty of good mention on other search engines.

That aside, we have a policy to stay a million kilometers away from anything that even hints at a legal encumbrance.

No, they do not support that notation. It would not be that hard to implement, but no one has asked for it before, so I guess the demand is pretty low.
Is simply geocoding the actual addresses with the build in #geocode parser function [0] not an option? That way you can avoid having to work with coordinates all together.

Dear Jeroen:
Does either Maps or Semantic Maps provide a means by which to display a
map with a marker at a set of coordinates given in degrees, minutes, and
seconds? All your examples for simple display of a single point use
floating-point degree quantities. This would force me to hand-convert,
and that seems rather pointless to me.
What I would like to do is design a template for a settlement, or a
landmark (e.g., mountain, hill, valley), that will include a map of the
immediate region and automatically place a marker at the specified
coordinates in the article on that settlement or landmark.
A query formatted as a map with many points on it looks great. And it
would be wonderful for an article on a country, because I could place
markers for every city and/or landmark in that country. But when I write
an article for a city or a mountain, I annotate coordinates in degrees,
minutes, and seconds. Or must I get used to specifying them in floats?
