I think it's fair to say that the philosophy behind MediaWiki is
egalitarian and based upon freely shared information, and that while
there are extensions that allow you to do limited page-hiding, the
base functionality of MediaWiki does not support it well, and there
may be many ways to get around it.

Hi,
1) I'm new to MW and having issues with dumpBackup.php and importDump.php. Both give me the same error:
# php maintenance/dumpBackup.php --full
X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.11
Content-type: text/html
DB connection error: Access denied for user 'Admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) (localhost)
I do have $wgDBadminuser and $wgDBadminpassword set in AdminSettings.php. I believe they are set correctly, since I can login to the wiki with the same name and password. Any idea what else I might be doing wrong?
2) Is it possible to use SSI in MW without it being stripped out? I've tried commenting out the "removeHTMLcomments" function in Sanitizer.php, but the HTML comment with the SSI in it still doesn't show up when I view source on the wiki display page in my browser. Even if it did, since the page doesn't have an shtml extension, I'm fairly sure it won't work.
Has anyone done this and can you talk a n00b through it?

During some other discussion thread I made a passing remark that the category
pages were not attractive to end-users. Someone, I'm sure, said that it was
possible to change the look of category pages - but I can't find the original
message. What I'd like to do is to have the category pages have the same
appearance as content pages.
Could someone kindly point me to suitable reading? Googling hasn't provided
an answer so far, but then I probably didn't use the best search terms.

New to KDE4? - get help from http://userbase.kde.org
I have subpages enabled for some namespaces because we have some
documentation sections that benefit from a hierarchical structure. I'd like
to change how subpages are displayed in the category listings on category
pages so only the subpage base page is used instead of the full page title,
and would appreciate any advice.
For example, assume I have pages called "Foo" and "Foo/Bar" in category
"XYZ". With the default configuration, the pages will show up as "Foo" and
"Foo/Bar under "F" on the category page. This confuses users because they're
actually looking for "Bar" under B.
I know I can use: [[Category:XYZ|{{SUBPAGENAME}}]] so that the page will be
indexed by the subpage name, but all that will do is make "Foo/Bar" appear
under "B" under on the XYZ category page (it still displays the full page
name).
What I would like is to have "Foo" appear under "F" on the XYZ category
page, and "Bar" under "B". Ideally this would occur site-wide to all
subpages, without having to add any special markup to the category
definition on the individual pages or the category pages. It's not out the
question for us to write an extension. That would be preferable to a source
code hack, but I'm open to any suggestions!
It would also be helpful if anyone had ideas on how to make
[[Category:XYZ|{{SUBPAGENAME}}]] the default for pages, without inserting it
on every page or doing a page preload.

Have you looked at the DPL extension? It can probably do what you want...

OK, disregard question 1, I figured out that the user and password are supposed to be the user and password for MySQL, not the wiki.
But question 2 stands...

Hello all,
I have the need to override the default action when clicking an image/file.
I would like to have the images show either the image on a blank page or
have nothing happen onclick. However, when you click on a PDF, it will
begin the download. Currently when clicking a file or image you are first
sent to the image page but I would like to completely remove this
functionality as there is no reason to show it most times in my
installation. I have looked through the hook list at
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Hooks and can't find a suitable hook.
I have also looked through the source, but can't seem to find a hook that
was left out of the hook list.
If there is anybody that has done this or knows a good path to follow, I am
open to suggestions.
Thank you in advance,
Tim Cronin

Hello,
Thanks Platonides.
I would like to setup BBClone but i don't know where should i insert the following code to perform a test (http://help.bbclone.de/index.php?n=Setup.TestingBBClone) :
<?php
define("_BBC_PAGE_NAME", "Test");
define("_BBCLONE_DIR", "bbclone/");
define("COUNTER", _BBCLONE_DIR."mark_page.php");
if (is_readable(COUNTER)) include_once(COUNTER);
?>I've skip this test and tried to insert this code in the *.htaccess file of the wiki (in order to Automatically Adding the Activation Code To Every PHP Page (Apache webservers only) - http://help.bbclone.de/index.php?n=Setup.ActivationCode) after creating the file count.php at the root of the webserver :
<FilesMatch "\.(php)$">
php_value short_open_tag "Off"
php_value auto_append_file "/the/path/that/leads/to/count.php"
</FilesMatch>
Perhaps i have made a mistake in the path ?
But after i can't access to the main page of my wiki. I get an error :
"Internal server error
The server encountered an internal error or
misconfiguration and was unable to complete
your request.
Please contact the server administrator,
postmaster(a)www.*************.fr and inform them of the time the error occurred,
and anything you might have done that may have
caused the error.
More information about this error may be available
in the server error log."
I don't find the server error log in my ftp directory.
I use OVH and think that's an apache server but i'm not sure!!! ???!
Sorry for my english. I try to be as clear as possible.
Thanks you for your help.
Best regards
Anna Castilla

After restoring a wiki backup I'm having a problem with namespaces.
Namespace "XYZ" was not defined in my old server's LocalSettings.php, the
pages were added just by typing in the namespace before each new page name
ie. XYZ:Pagename. Now on the new server, after restoring the backup, all
pages in namespace XYZ don't exist. When a link to a page in namespace XYZ
is clicked, the create new page is shown. As I said before, I fear this was
caused by not specifying the namespaces in LocalSettings.php on the old
server. Adding a namespace declaration in the new server's LocalSettings.php
doesn't fix the problem either.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
