It's very simple to import them. Simply make sure 'pdf' is in the
array $wgFileExtensions in LocalSettings.php. Then upload them like an
image.
Showing them is another matter. There's what appears to be a very nice
extension for doing so, which allows small versions to be embedded in
a wiki page, with scrolling through pages, etc. But it requires that a
few GNUware programs be installed, and I haven't gotten around to that
yet, so no personal experience to relate on this one.

If you make images of them, they won't be searchable.
I don't think they are searchable when simply uploaded, but they at
least have the potential!

Hi,
Spezialseite zuweise.
Was ist zu tun?

Hi,
I am proud to announce that yesterday I had a meeting on the company
techcology department and they have agreed to iniciate some tests with the
script that allows mediawiki to use files from wikimedia commons.
Meanwhile I would like to do some tests by my own on the wiki I installed
locally at home. I have to write the code below to enable media files from
wikimedia commons, Where do I have to write it? Is there a specific line of
Localsettings?
$wgForeignFileRepos[] = array(
'class' => 'ForeignAPIRepo',
'name' => 'shared',
'apibase' => 'http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php',
'fetchDescription' => true, // Optional
'descriptionCacheExpiry' => 43200, // 12 hours, optional
'apiThumbCacheExpiry' => 43200, // 12 hours, optional, but
required for local thumb caching
);
Thanks in advance, Nevio

Hi,
I have red some manuals and FAQs, but I haven't figured out, how to redirect
my mw installation to a subdomain. Can you explain it to me? Let me give an
example:
I have set a subdomain:* tech.foo.com* with directory */public_html/tech*.
My provider say: "tech.foo.com is equal to foo.com/tech, so you must
redirect it via mw". But I dont know how. As I would like to set up wiki
family, I prefer to redirect it to the subdomain, that the URLs look like
tech.foo.com/index.php/~ or tech.foo.com/w/~
Thanks for help,

Dear translators,
MediaWiki is constantly in need of your help. In the MediaWiki repository we
do not only maintain MediaWiki with about 2,400 messages but we also have well
over 400 MediaWiki extensions, of which some 375 have over 8,000 translatable
messages.
As the end of this year is near, and we are getting ready for the next major
MediaWiki release (1.16), we once again call upon you for your help.
Please come to http://translatewiki.net, create a user account, request
translator rights and set your language in your preferences.
Then check your language code at
http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:LanguageStats to see where you can
contribute. Chances are that you can contribute a whole lot.
Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Hallo,
I'm watching the drug spammer on and on ...
67.154.54.242 - - [18/Dec/2009:19:29:45 +0100] "GET /Wiki/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&type=signup HTTP/1.1" 302 - "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1"

67.154.54.242 - - [18/Dec/2009:19:29:48 +0100] "GET /Wiki/index.php?title=User:Online_Pharmacy_Azelaic_Acid_Generic_Azelex&action=edit HTTP/1.1" 200 12333 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1"
confuses me a bit: "Special:UserLogin" leads to "302" (blocked), but
"Spezial:Anmelden" leads to "200" (success).
Ok - I don't know if the spammer uses the same login string both times.
But that looks like an incomplete barrier.
There is only one extension running (I'm trying what is necessary):
"PaddwordReset".
-------------------
By the way: sometimes "Special:Contributions" is visited by the spammer
- I can't find the german name and location of this side.
Viele Gruesse!

Hello,
Thanks Platonides.
I would like to setup BBClone but i don't know where should i insert the following code to perform a test (http://help.bbclone.de/index.php?n=Setup.TestingBBClone) :
<?php
define("_BBC_PAGE_NAME", "Test");
define("_BBCLONE_DIR", "bbclone/");
define("COUNTER", _BBCLONE_DIR."mark_page.php");
if (is_readable(COUNTER)) include_once(COUNTER);
?>I've skip this test and tried to insert this code in the *.htaccess file of the wiki (in order to Automatically Adding the Activation Code To Every PHP Page (Apache webservers only) - http://help.bbclone.de/index.php?n=Setup.ActivationCode) after creating the file count.php at the root of the webserver :
<FilesMatch "\.(php)$">
php_value short_open_tag "Off"
php_value auto_append_file "/the/path/that/leads/to/count.php"
</FilesMatch>
Perhaps i have made a mistake in the path ?
But after i can't access to the main page of my wiki. I get an error :
"Internal server error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, postmaster(a)www.*************.fr and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log."
I don't find the server error log in my ftp directory.
I use OVH and think that's an apache server but i'm not sure!!! ???!
Sorry for my english. I try to be as clear as possible.
Thanks you for your help.
Best regards
AC

On Wed Nov 26 01:04:12 UTC 2008 a strategy about subdomains rename was made
public
http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/foundation-l/2008-November/047554.html
But to our regret, nothing happened until now, just to make sure you do not
forget, I want to reiterate how *IMPORTANT that you rename that
mo.wikipedia.org -> mo-cyrl.wikipedia.org domain.*
If you have IT staff shortage, *I **volunteer* to rename the subdomains dns
entries.
And better, just remove it altogether this bullshit since this is just
romanian written with cyrillic alphabet, search on google for latin to
cyrillic transliteration, and stop wasting your database space and time.
Happy holidays to you.
Sorry for this much elementary question but I am a php with mysql learner
and I am daring to install a mediawiki. I was halted on the first step with
these messages:
- Database type: MySQL
- Loading class: DatabaseMysql
- Attempting to connect to database server as root...failed due to
authentication errors. Check passwords.
Something's not quite right yet; make sure everything below is filled out
correctly.
Please, help !!
