$wgDBtransactions gets set to true if using InnoDB tables. Is there
an advantage to using InnoDB tables?
The disadvantage is that with MySQL there is a file, ibdata1, that
seems to grow endlessly if InnoDB tables are used. See
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=1341
We're wondering if we should just convert everything to MyISAM. Any
thoughts?

Hi all,
I've created some custom namespaced on one of my wikis, Botwiki
(previously known as pywikipedia).
I've put these lines in my LocalSettings.php file:
- ---
#Custom namespaces
$wgExtraNamespaces =
array(100 => "Manual",
101 => "Manual talk",
102 => "Python",
103 => "Python talk",
104 => "Php",
105 => "Php talk",
106 => "Perl",
107 => "Perl talk",
108 => "AWB",
109 => "AWB talk",
110 => "IRC",
111 => "IRC talk",
112 => "Other",
113 => "Other talk"
);
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 100;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 102;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 104;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 106;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 108;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 110;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 112;
- ---
However, I have a big problem: when I go to a page in one of these new
namespaces (not the discussion, the main ones), for example
http://botwiki.sno.cc/wiki/Perl:Copyright_Violation_Bot , I found the
red link to the discussion page. It's right, as there is no discussion
page for that article. But if you click on it, it brings you to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a…
correct, of course. But have a look of the article and discussion tabs:
they are both red! The first, "article", leads to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a…
when it should lead to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/wiki/Perl:Copyright_Violation_Bot and the second,
"discussion", leads to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Talk:Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_…
, when it should lead to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a…
.
It's the first time I deal with custom namespaces :-( but I have some
ideas of what it can be. Can the problem be with the
$wgContentNamespaces settings? So it detects everything as ns0? (don't
think so).
Or can it be the fact that I haven't used an underscore in the
$wgExtraNamespaces definition?

I want to moving all pages in a certain namespace (about 60 pages) into
the the "main" namespace. I couldn't find how to do this, so I tried
exporting the pages and importing them and I ran into all sorts of
problems. Is there a way to do what I want without using the import and
export features (and without having to move each of them manually)?
Thanks.
Hi everyone on the list,
I contribute to the Skoffer project, and like to point you to my Skoffer
MediaWiki plugin (GPL).
Skoffer is a free uncommercial project which lets you build in a
screencast recorder into your website. Since MediaWiki is great to make
sofware documentations, the ability to to record screencasts (in
unlimited resolutions and lengths) without installing a software (it´s
Java based) could be interesting for some of you.
If your website could make use of it, please have a look at
http://www.skoffer.com and/or on my blog post
http://www.stefanschulzesteinmann.com/skoffer-mediawiki-plugin/
If you want to see a demo: There are two screencasts in my blog post
which I recorded as a demonstration. The one shows how I create the other.
A happy 3. advent,
Stefan Schulze Steinmann
PS: By the way, you are the first persons who know about Skoffer. This
mail is the project´s starting shot.
Hi,
I use last MW version. My problem:
While working on local version of my wiki-site I make a little pause and I
rebegin work 30 minutes after. I create a new page, but this page does not
exist. The link to it is read, when I click on the link, it opens the page in
edit-mode.
The page content is not lost, but MW will not memorize it as an existing page.
I can save it again, but the link is still read.
I disconnect and I reconnect as user Klaus, but this does not help.
cheers
Klaus
Hi, is there a way to obtain the day of the year in wiki pages?
Like ...
date('z');
... in PHP.
I want a number starting from 0 through 365.
Thanks (and have a happy new year);

Hi,
I will preface the email by saying that I'm a beginner --please forgive if I
haven't included any necessary information to solve my problem!
I've just started my wiki project using media wiki 1.13.3, IIS 5.1, PHP 5,
and mySQL 5.1. I had everything up and running smoothly, but today, I
noticed that whenvever I tried to access my wiki from a remote computer (not
the one that I've been developing from), the main page does not load on the
first try. I type in the address of the wiki and I get the standard wiki
"There is currently no text on this page, you can search for this page title
in other pages or edit this page." But everything else, including the logo
and the links in the side bar, are as they should be, and I have to click
"main page" on the side bar, before everything loads normally.
I have not been able to reproduce this error on my own machine, but I get it
on three other machines.
Recent extensions I installed are: Lockdown, Wikiscript, and Wikiwidget.
Anyone have any ideas of what is going on?
Thanks in advance for the help!
Rebecca
Hi,
on my own site http://katalogdeutsch.free.fr/index.php, I can't edit a page.
The site tells me that he can't memorize the modification because he lost
informations about my session. It invites me to disconnect and reconnect, but
this does not help.
This happens when I am connected as "Klaus". When I am not connected, I can
edit pages. So I deleted user "Klaus" in the database and recreated it on the
site, but the problem is still the same.
I tried to create this wiki by importing files and db from
http://katalogdeutsch.oxyweb.com where user "Klaus" can edit pages.
Any hints ?
cheers
Klaus
Did you use the phpMyAdmin tool for export import? I had a similar problem
and
I solved it when I noticed that phpMyAdmin showed a wrong charset for the
database engine (you can set charset for database engine, database and
table).
Verify by mysql console, if possible, what is the charset setting.
Hope this help
