Hi all,
Does anyone know the cleanest way to rename a whole wiki? I'm guessing
that I'll change LocalSettings.php to update the $wgSiteName, and also
perhaps rename the name of the mysql database. But I also see things
like, for example, that in Special:Allmessages, the "wikititlesuffix"
string is changed from the default of "{{SITENAME}}" to my wiki name. I
don't know why, I certainly never changed a bunch of those system
messages, were they set to include the literal name of my site when the
databases were first created?
thanks for any advice,
-Nick

The tmp file exists and should be writable. What chmod should it be?
OK, I changed the image directory to 777 and the installation worked fine ....

Should the image directory chmod be changed now? Or does it have to stay
writable? Is it OK to run the wiki using that instead of the /tmp directory?
Security wise etc.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Would I be allowed to put this up onto the installation wiki for this
(MediaWiki)? Or the troubleshooting etc when it is full resolved?

NP, sorry about that, here it is, but everything else appears to be fine up
until that stage.

PHP safe mode is off, since I needed that for Gallery in the same domain.
I can provide the appropriate PHP configuration info if that helps.
They attempted to ensure that apache had access etc to the tmp directory, as
indicated in the email that I provided the URL for in the first post.

What is the best (easiest) way to make it so that you can insert a
piece of hard-coded HTML? New special page? A locked template? A
flying saucer? Enlighten me, please.

Thank you to JosephM for inviting me to Gmail!
I´v got this message in the beginning of the installation process:
*Warning*: set_time_limit(): Cannot set time limit in safe mode in

* PHP 4.3.9: ok
* *Warning: PHP's safe mode <http://www.php.net/features.safe-mode>
is active!* You will likely have problems caused by this. You may
need to make the 'images' subdirectory writable or specify a TMP
environment variable pointing to a writable temporary directory
owned by you, since safe mode breaks the system temporary directory.
* PHP server API is cgi; using ugly URLs (index.php?title=Page_Title)
* Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support.
* PHP's memory_limit is 8M. *If this is too low, installation may
fail!* Attempting to raise limit to 20M... failed.
* Have zlib support; enabling output compression.
* Found GD graphics library built-in, image thumbnailing will be
enabled if you enable uploads.
* Installation directory:
/mnt/kw1/01/914/00000000/htdocs/Bioseite/mediawiki
* Script URI path: /mediawiki
The Problem remains even if I give chmod 777 to install-utils.inc and
images
The file LocalSettings.php is not created
Any ideas to solve the problem ?
1000 Thank`s

Sorry if there is not the correct location to post this. If not, could someone
let me know where is the more approriate list/board etc. Thank you.
"Warning: $wgProxyKey is insecure Can't find a writable temp directory for the

That is the error that I am getting in attempting to install MediaWiki.
>From here:
http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2004-August/024401.html it was
mentioned that it was something to do with the tmp-directory on the virtual
hosting machine. I asked my provider to look into that and they tried a couple
of things but it still didn't work.
Is that actually the issue? The manner in which the virtual hosting machine is
configured in respect to the tmp directory?
Any insight or assistance would be greatly accepted.

Hi,
>From mediawiki's README:

What issues are these, exactly? I would like to install mediawiki in
sourceforge, but their version of php is php-4.2.2-17.2. Can I install it
anyway? How severe are the issues mentioned in README?
TIA,
Thiago

Hi, I'm new to MediaWiki and I have run into a problem so I hope some of
you would be able to help me...
The problem I have is that after submitting changes to edit a page, the
page does not refresh to the page where the changes I made. Instead, it
gives me a "Page cannot be displayed" error.
e.g. say the page I am trying to update is
/abc/wiki/index.php/Main_Page, then, after I submitted the changes,
instead of going back to /abc/wiki/index.php/Main_Page, I am stuck in a
page /abc/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page&action=submit with the "page
cannot be displayed" error. However, the changes I submitted was made if
to go to /abc.wiki/index.php/Main_Page and view the page.
Has anyone experiences regarding this issue and if so, how would I be
able to fix it?
Thanks a lot in advance.
