You can much contribute in whatever way you want during 1Lib1Ref. It’s about engaging
librarians rather than constraining what they do.
However, in terms of tracking the contributions, I don’t think there is any tool that
tracks activity across all Wikimedia platforms. The main tools in use are the hashtag
counting tool and the Outreach Dashboard and Events Metrics tools and each of them tracks
specific things. So tracking Wikipedia edits is no problem, tracking Commons is a bit more
of problem (some tools track file uploads on Commons but not other edits on Commons). I
have no idea if there are any tools tracking WikiData as that has not been a focus in any
1Lib1Ref activity that I have been involved in.
As far as Wikipedia only is concerned, I generally suggest lone librarians use the hashtag
but for a library I would say use either Dashboard or Metrics. Someone will presumably set
up an overarching Campaign for 1Lib1Ref 2020 on both Dashboard and Metrics and then you
can position your library 1Lib1Ref program under one or other of those campaigns. Unless
it has changed recently, Dashboard is more flexible in that a program can be listed under
multiple campaigns. This is convenient if you have a Campaign for your library and you
want your 1lib1ref activities tracked for both the 1Lib1Ref campaign and for your own
library campaign. Metrics only allows a single parent campaign so you have to chose
whether your activity will be positioned under the 1Lib1Ref or your own library at the
top-level. Although Metrics was created to be a replacement for dashboard (and has some
nice features), the ability to track under multiple campaigns keeps me using and
recommending Dashboard.

Subject: Re: [1lib1ref] #1Lib1Ref in January 2020!
Hello all,
We, at the National Library of Israel, have a few questions regarding the upcoming
campaign:
1. Can contributions to other Wikimedia projects such as Wikidata and Wikicommons be
considered as part of the campaign, can they be tagged #1lib1ref?
2. Which contributions to Wikipedia can count? For example, adding an image to an
article, further reading, external links, article editing?
3. Are there any new statistics tools or dashboard developments that can be helpful
for organizers?
We saw two new additions to the dashboard: ORES and Campaign Alerts. It will be helpful if
we provide the organizers some explanations and implications of this additions.
4. Is it necessary to create new program under the 2020 campaign, or can we use the
2019 program and add the #1Lib1Ref January 2020 tag.
We would love to hear your thoughts.
Thank you.

Subject: [1lib1ref] #1Lib1Ref in January 2020!
Librarians and library lovers,
From January 15th to February 5th we will be joining
together around the world to make Wikipedia more reliable. You can participate in
#1Lib1Ref by simply adding a citation to Wikipedia's content!
That's all we ask and imagine: a world in which every librarian (or archivist,
reference professional, and scholar) adds 1 more reference to Wikipedia. This is the fifth
year of the #1Lib1Ref campaign and we couldn’t be more excited to support another year of
activities.
Full resources and guides for participating are available on the
<http://1lib1ref.org> campaign website ( <http://1lib1ref.org>
http://1lib1ref.org).
If you are planning to host a
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_Wikipedia_Library/1Lib1Ref/Coffee_Kit> coffee
hour or a edit-a-thon focused on #1Lib1Ref, and you need funding for the event, you will
be able to apply for a <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid> Rapid
Grant. For the best chance of approval, requests should be made in the month of November,
since requests related to #1Lib1Ref will be given priority by the Grants team during
November.
You can make sure your contribution is counted by using the Program and Events Dashboard
for your event, institution, or region, and using the #1Lib1Ref hashtag in your edit
summary. Login to start a new event or join an existing one for the January campaign here:

Please tell your library and library-loving friends about #1Lib1Ref in January. We need
everyone's help to make Wikipedia more reliable!
You can join the 1Lib1Ref community via the Libraries (
<mailto:libraries@lists.wikimedia.org> libraries(a)lists.wikimedia.org), and 1Lib1Ref
( <mailto:1lib1ref@lists.wikimedia.org> 1lib1ref(a)lists.wikimedia.org) mailing lists,
