even as top 1 trending video. It reached 200k views and counting.
As far as I know, no "serious" video on Wikipedia or other Wikimedia
projects has reached such a virality. (Although I see a Stephen Colbert
and an alltime10s video with 1M views each.) Maybe we can learn
something from it?

Hello,
Hope this finds you well. I didn't plan on meeting librarians at a
university here in Cairo, Egypt, but they expressed interest in Wikipedia,
so we are meeting :). The problem is, I really don't know what activities
to offer them. I have zero experience in Wiki+libraries collaborations. It
would be more than great if anybody could help me out. What I need is:
1. Understanding the nature of librarians work (I know it is a big topic,
but some general remarks would do).
2. Having examples of activities they can be part of to contribute to Wiki
(be it Wikipedia or Wikimedia).
3. Understanding how rewarding those activities are (so that I explain to
them)
4. Having examples of similar activities, if any, around the world.
Bonus point 5. Having a clear plan of action to give them (i.e. what do we
do after the meeting and so on)
Thank you so so much in advance for helping me navigate this uncharted
territory.

I must agree with Kerry that the most important step when building a new relationship with librarians is to assume that their knowledge and understanding of Wikipedia is generally poor. I work as a wikimedian in residence at the Scottish Library and Information Council and my remit is to work across all the public libraries in Scotland and engage them in Wikipedia activities. Over time, we’ve developed a kind of pathway for engaging with new libraries that want to take part in the project.
We usually start with an advocacy session focused on the benefits of open knowledge, introducing wikipedia and its sister projects, highlighting how some of the strategic goals of the wikimedia community overlap with the goals of libraries and finally expanding on a few examples of GLAM projects that have taken place in libraries. For me those would using be GLAM projects that took place at the National Library of Scotland<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/National_Library_of_Scotland>, the National Library of Wales<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Expert_outreach/National_Wikimedian_at_the_Na…>, the Catalonian public libraries wikiproject<https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Case_studies/Catalonia%27s_Network…>, The Bodleian library<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/Oxford>’s ventures with Wikidata and the OCLC online Wikipedia training for librarians<http://www.oclc.org/blog/main/wikipedia-the-webjunction-way/>. Once we’ve run the initial advocacy session, we’ll then look at running a one day staff training session focused on teaching librarians the ins and outs of wikipedia and how to edit. Next we’ll support them to find a group they want to run a project with and offer the group training before running an editathon. The final phase of this pathway is to train groups of librarians in how to be wikipedia trainers and event coordinators. This approach works well with public libraries and we’ve been steadily building a base of libraries engaged with Wikipedia across Scotland. In future, we also plan on building more engagement with uploading digital collections to Wikimedia Commons and introducing the use of Wikidata in relation to library collections.

At this point, our main focus is to automatize the most we can the
importation of data and associated images from the open BNP database into
Wikidata and Commons with the support and orientation of the BNP staff,
directly involving a group of librarians from the BNP, people from WMPT
(Wikidata users, bot scripters, Commons users, people in charge of
communications), the former Wikimedia Community in Brazil UG, who are
running a number of state-of-the-art GLAMs on similar institutions and are
sharing their experience with us.
Workshops (mainly focused in Wikidata) are being planned for the near
future, both at the BNP and with the Portuguese Wikimedian community.

This is not directly Wikimedia related but relates to engagement of
librarians globally. OCLC (the organization I work for) has run a the IFLA
/ OCLC Fellows program for librarians from developing nations. It would be
amazing (I think) if we could attract some librarians who are interested in
leveraging the connections between Wikimedia projects and librarianship.
If you are a librarian from one of the identified countries, I urge you to
apply! Or if you can distribute this information to other relevant lists,
please do so. I know that one of our former fellow Saima Qutab is
currently active in the Wikimedia movement.

Program overview
Up to five individuals are selected each year for participation in this
intensive four-week Fellowship Program based at OCLC's headquarters in
Dublin, Ohio, USA. The program gives Fellows opportunities to meet with
leading information practitioners and explore topics including information
technologies, library operations and management, and global cooperative
librarianship.
The Fellows visit many libraries, cultural heritage institutions and
library organizations. They also observe OCLC's governance structure in
action, gaining insight into issues affecting the global library
cooperative. In addition, Fellows give presentations about their home
countries and libraries and discuss real-world solutions to the challenges
facing libraries today.
The Fellows then translate their learning and experiences into specific
professional development plans that guide their continued growth as well as

who are in early stages of career development and from countries with
