Why do we need WYSIWYG to visualise italics and bold?
What's wrong with this question is the word "we". We who are already great fans of Wikipedia and Mediawiki are obviously comfortable with the current wikitext markup, or otherwise we would be somewhere else. What WYSIWYG can bring is *new* people.
I don't see your point in protesting against this. Nobody is going to force you to use my Swedish keyboard layout and nobody is going to force you to use WYSIWYG editing. What's your problem?
