I see that we have Bold, but not "List Template". I suspect adding the latter would be pretty trivial.
For me, to click on a button thatsays "list" is far more intuitive than adding some arbitrary characters in amongst my content. I also find it quite taxing looking at a sea of monospaced text intermixed with arbitrary characters that have nothing to do with my content.
Ah, but they *do* have to do with your content. This is a "level" problem.
But you remain correct: an overlay WYSIWYG editor, perhaps within the contstraints Steve mentioned in an earlier message, will serve the requirements you have, without requiring much (if any) underlying modification.
