Old versions of curl cannot download files >2GB. Intermediate versions
have a bug on the display. This is probably your problem.
Newer version of curl can download files >2GB without problems. Mine is:
$ curl -V
curl 7.12.1 (i386-redhat-linux-gnu) libcurl/7.12.1
The previous version I had (7.10 something) failed.

Hi Kate,
are you sure? The line gives me that output:
curl >/dev/null
http://download.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/20050516_old_table.sql.gz
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Curr.
Dload Upload Total Current Left Speed
0 2047M 0 2600k 0 0 449k 0 1:17:48 0:00:05 1:17:42 511k04
I am trying this on suse 9.1 and files over 2GB are supported on the file system.

I am trying to download the german "old"
table on:

The link says that the size of that file is 13.97 GiB.
Howver, the file is just 2GB (definatelly) and
there are no aditional
files like described on the wikipedia download help page.
are you sure the program you are using to download it supports large files?
