The problem with locking reads turns out to be a bug
in InnoDB. Well,
I'm calling it a bug anyway.
I know this has been covered before, but if we are talking about
"longterm software strategy", I'd like to point out that PostgreSQL
is still totally free, has no locking issues, and now offers replication.
There are even some PG hackers lurking on this list (besides me) that
would be more than happy to help move things in that direction. :)
