Because, as Lars' seemingly unnecessary rebuttal showed, it's
impossible to distinguish between you being mistaken in your facts
about someone and the facts being correct but about someone else. In a
sense, it means no-one can deny your claims, because they don't know
whether you're talking about them or not - they either have to
silently suspect you mean them, or risk giving you ammunition to say
"I wasn't thinking of you, but...".
