On the basis of a quick scan through my Gmail folders, I can expect to 
receive this kind of email from:
* Amazon
* Shockwave
* AbeBooks
* The Book People
* Genes/Friends Reunited
* PayPal

Happily Gmail's default is to switch the images off. It also has the nice 
touch of checking whether any links have different base URL's to the email 
originator...at least I assume that's how it knows to warn me about possible 
phishing...
