This point is *absolutely* useless and in fact counterproductive - if a 
browser cannot do 1), then it should not be served 2). Newbies have been 
learning wiki markup just fine by examples already in articles and by having 
old timers wikify their prose. 

I've already explained why 2) is always bad on the Village pump, and on this 
mailing list. I also do not seem to be alone in thinking the way that I do. 

But having it off by default for now is fine. Just remember the above when it 
is made on by default.
