I've seen these things from Steve, and they only appear on the 
occasional one of his many posts without apparent pattern.  I'm willing 
to give him the benefit of the doubt about the intentionality of this.

I've found that the easiest way to read them has been to use the "reply" 
icon.  This opens it up in an edit screen that I can delete after I've 
read the message.
