Which  kernel  version do  you  use? and  do  you  have some  specific
information of  the error  (from the journal  of the filesystem  ? i/o
error on read() or write() ? ...)? 

There is various issue on some specifc disk driver (e.g. some specific
IDE  chipset). Are  you sure  that the  hardware problem  is  really a
hardware problem ?
