Damn it! Chuq/Charles: Care to confirm or deny this statement?

The travel cost doesn't seem too bad - e.g. $79 or $89 each way on JetStar
for Sydney to Hobart around this time, which is the same as or usually less
than flying Sydney to Melbourne around this time at $99 to $117 each way
with Virgin [I'm excluding JetStar via Avalon airport because of the
extra distance and because it's not much cheaper].

But yeah, if you have to register for the whole conference, then that's an
unfair financial burden on the people who don't want to attend the other days.

For the record, Hobart to Melbourne is around $49 to $69 on Virgin or JetStar,
so if we do decide to organise a local conf, and do it in Melbourne, and have
it either immediately before or immediately after LCA, then that could
potentially work (it's usually easier & cheaper to visit one more place
when you're already moving than to visit from scratch).

Other options for hosting might be to coincide it with a BarCamp, or to take
a leaf out of the BarCamp playbook and try to hold it in the same facilities
and with a similar approach (since they too are run on a shoestring budget for
one or two days bringing together a diverse group of people for an informal
conference, and try to cover their costs using sponsorship - so the problem
we're trying to solve is the pretty similar, so the solution will probably
look fairly similar too).

-- All the best,
Nick.
