Just for the record, we are doing State-based chapters at the request of the
Chapters Committee. We had originally wanted a regional committee, but
ChapComm strongly suggested simply a state organization (and who were we to
argue? :P).
A couple of comments here. It seems to me that Philadelphia has more in
common with Trenton than it does with Pittsburgh. Newark, on the other hand, or
Elizabeth, or wherever in northern NJ, has more in common with NYC. Chicago and
Gary would make more sense than Chicago and Aurora. Etc. In a state driven
world, will DC, Potomac, and Alexandria be three separate chapters (Washington
DC, Maryland, and Virginia respectively)? It would only be cool because you
could get to three different chapters using the same subway.
It seems to me that the US should consider metropolitan hubs as the basis of
chapters. For an example of this, see how Craig's List operates.
