I didn't "solicit" all of these complaints. Your complaint is spam by
some definitions of that term. And if the retort comes, as I expect it
will, that subscribing to foundation-l amounts to soliciting these
well over 130 messages whining about spam (anyone see the irony?) then
providing an email address *for other users to contact you* must also
amount to "soliciting" personal communications by email.
If this had been put on people's talk pages instead would there have
been the same complaints? Everyone seems to have gotten their knickers
in a twist because the mechanism was email.
If you want to have a debate, have a debate about whether the message
meets enwiki's definition of canvassing, a guideline which already
exists to cover exactly this sort of situation:
