Hi Karthik,
Anirudh gave the answer a while ago but I shall reiterate what he said.
Perhaps people missed the import of what he said.
If we place a link [[Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi]] on the article "Mohandas
Karamchand Gandhi" itself, the software does not render it as a link but as
bold, this is to avoid self-referential loops, a kind of software glitch.
In the {{cite book}}, {{cite journal}} etc templates, there is a field
called "authorlink". In case the author has a wikipedia article about him
then the name of the article should be added here. Since authorlink was
providing Gandhi's name wikilinked on his page itself, it appeared as bold
not as a link to avoid self-reference.
If we remove the value for authorlink in this case, Gandhi's article name
from the references, his name will not appear as bold any longer.
