You know you're wrong about BASIC.
It still exists, programmers are still, today, coding in BASIC.
It never was a significant part of the market, only for PCs which don't (or
didn't) run organizations, but were for home hobbyists. But for companies,
the majority ran on COBOL. In fact, believe it or don't, there are still
machines today which run on COBOL.
However a form of BASIC was adapted for business, and you can still see ads
looking for programmers in BASIC. I would guess it might be running 10
percent of business even today.
