Ok, because ten other people were about to suggest this anyway: a way
to focus the choice of article. Instead of random, "random within a
category" would be great, or it could try following links from your
contributions or something. Just to improve the chance of working on
something you actually know something about and care about.
Also, presenting some of the "statistics" graphically would perhaps be
better, and some way of seeing at a glance if any of the stats are
unusual (like 25 links of which 1 exist).
IMHO it would also be worth showing the article somewhere, so you can
quickly get a feel for whether you want to jump into it or not.
