As you're blaming the donation box, you can block it (and access to meta 
with it) by adding to your [[en:Hosts_file]] a fake entry for 
meta.wikimedia.org pointing it to 0.0.0.0, 127.0.0.1...

You can also block JavaScripts (which removes the donation box delay and 
also of other scripts)
