Why don't we start covering
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Encyclopedia_topics
then list all broken links, write these articles, rinse (merging,
deleting and redirecting), repeat.

Once there are no broken links anymore (typos become redirects) we
will know the exact number :-)
