He needs to ask the community though. If a majority disagree with his 
decision, then he is de facto powerless. If he loses face with the 
community, but attempts to continue to exercise dictatorial force, forks 
will likely appear very soon. It is therefore in both his own and in 
Wikipedia's interests that he take a step back and not try to push this 
one through no matter what anyone thinks.
