Just a suggestion from another language in the wiki empire:
In german wikipedia, we just started the winterspeck campaign
(http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Aktion_Winterspeck) which is 
dedicated to improving important articles in all areas.

So far, participation and progress is quite good.
