Getting a raise

An act of kindness usually associated with a type of employment. 
Getting a raise is considered after time has past between the employer 
and employee; used as an incentive to determine the person(s) worth to 
the company. Based in earlier history of capitalism, more often than 
not the employer is a cheapskate or miser and will not bestow a raise 
on said employee. These employers are bastards.
