[WikiEN-l] Arbitration

I hope that the arbitrators know that I have nothing
but respect for them. I would like to point out to
them that the matters of Wik and Anthony were referred
to them two weeks ago, and that we have not received
an update. The two of them have been much better
behaved for quite some time, but today they've gotten
two pages protected (at Atlantium they each reverted
the other one 15 times in three hours before I
protected it) and they certainly may do more if old
trends are resurfacing.
I know arbitration is difficult, but I think it needs
to be pointed out that two weeks is longer than the
arbitrators had originally estimated as the time
needed to make these decisions. I also think Wik and
Anthony provide us with an excellent view of how
arbitration affects a user. If they want to stay,
they are initially worried and self-correct behavior
somewhat. But as time goes by, if it appears
arbitration is not reaching any result, they may
decide that returning to old ways is acceptable.
I'm not saying this so we can all bash the AC in
public -- they do a thankless job and a difficult one.
I just am wanting to make sure that they are aware
that the delays in at least one current case may pose
a problem in the near future if Wik and Anthony
continue (I hate to say it, but we may see more
vigilante justice if things deteriorate). I also am
hoping that the AC can take this opportunity to
consider internally how best to speed cases up so that
we don't face this down the road.
I think it's doable, it's reasonable, and I have every
confidence in the arbitrators that they want the same
things for Wikipedia I do, and that they will find the
best possible way to resolve these issues. Thanks for
your hard work,
James R. (Jwrosenzweig)
