May I suggest that you are being too easy on this person. He added himself to 
[[list of ethicists]] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethicists), which 
includes the following in the intro paragraph:

"List of ethicists including religious or political figures recognized by 
those outside their tradition as having made major contributions to ideas 
about ethics, ..."
