C'est une question de faux amis.  Le mot français "gratuit" peut-être 
traduit come "gratuitous" en quelques circonstances, mais pas toujours. 
 L'expression anglaise la plus commune pour ce mot est "gratuitous 
violence" ou la violence gratuite.  "Gratuitous help" serait une 
assistance rendu sans que la personne qui le reçoit le désire.  Alors 
l'idée d'inutilité est beaucoup plus fort dans ce mot en anglaiz.
