Hi again,
thanks for the quick answer!
I think your proposition is just the solution for my problem too. :-)
I was so blinded by the possibility of the wikis sharing the sourcecode that I
didn't even think of the chance of a strictly separated installation and its
advantages. And when one update is done and documented well the other is just
following the to-do-list, especially if the wikis do not differ too much.
I'll take the opportunity to move both wikis to a totally new server though
since they live inside a Xampp-environment at the moment and the new server will
be Apache, PHP, MySQL etc. from scratch thus making it easier to install vhosts
and also securing it for productive use etc.

Hi,
do you intend to share some stuff (e.g images) between the wikis? For
my wikis it was not the case, thus I set up several wikis in parallel
(in different directories) in one virtual server.
For me it has also the advantage that updating the wikis to a new
MediaWiki version can be done with one wiki first. Thus problems with
updating will not affect the other wikis.

Hello everybody,
I've been set the task to merge two existing
wikis in a wiki-farm
in order to consolidate the two separate virtual servers the wikis
live on at the moment into one single virtual server.
Now I'm not sure whether this idea is even
feasible and if it were,
which kind of wiki-family would be the best way to get the two
wikis together...
I've had a look at
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Wiki_family
but I have to admit that I am rather baffled at the different
scenarios presented and when I take a look at the discussions-page
I get downright frightend. I'm not a complete newbie, but I rather
need a newbie-proof easy to understand how-to in order to get a
handle on such a project... :-(
So any hints and tips are more than welcome! Kate
