I think it will only change if the page is deleted and then recreated.
The "cur" is probably for backwards compatibility, there used to exist
a database table called "cur" that kept only the current versions of
articles (along with a table called "old" that kept old versions), and
the parameter was probably already used back then. When the database
layout was changed to the current one (pages are revisions as separate
entities), the parameter name stuck. (See
