[Mediawiki-l] Removing deleted pages from category

I deleted one hundred pages via the API, but they still all appear blue
and listed alphabetically in the Category they were in.  When you click
thru, you get to a "This page has been deleted" notice.

I tried running some of the maintenance scripts (runJobs, refreshLinks,
updateArticleCount, rebuildrecentchanges), none of them had any
effect.  What did work was opening the category page to edit it, and
then resaving.

"?action=purge" also works.  Is there a maintence script which will
accomplish this for all/some pages?
