I made my first MediaWiki site two days ago.  It was easy, and I just 
followed the instructions:

Don't be afraid to make mistakes.  If you need help, ask here.  If you 
do mess something up badly, it's easy to just remove MediaWiki 
completely and start over, so at the early stage mistakes are easy to 
recover from.
