[Mediawiki-l] Making links with Images

On Mediawiki.org and on Wikipedia too, this works:
[[File:Nuvola apps download manager.png|40px|link=http://www.cnn.com/]]

It uses that image and links the image to the URL. On my default MW (1.13) though, this doesnt work. Can the default MW version also have this functionality please? Or is this something that was introduced in 1.14?
 
Yea, I've tried image link extensions but they're hard to work with.
