Thanks Matěj I will try this but it isn't ideal as some of the documents would not be able to fall into the security requirements for the extension to run. It would be interesting to see if it makes a difference though.

Try extension addHTML <http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:AddHTML>. With this you can add arbitary HTML code to your wiki page.
