I have good news.
I was wondering but, in Mediawiki 1.11.1 the following FileLink works under the IE out of
the box:
[file://///YOUR_SERVERNAME/FOLDER1/test.doc Testdocument *.doc]
I guess you prefer firefox instead of the IE like I do, so this is not possible at the
moment.
