[Mediawiki-l] edit MediaWiki:Sidebar

I am running mediawiki 1.6.9.

When I login to edit the side bar - MediaWiki:Sidebar, the "edit" tag 
is not there.
When I clicked "view source" tag, the following page shows:

    "This page has been locked to prevent editing;
     there are a number of reasons why this may be so,
     please see 
<http://www.animalgenome.org:2358/wiki/mediawiki/index.php?title=Infopedia:Protected_page&action=edit>Project:Protected 
page. "

but the 
"<http://www.animalgenome.org:2358/wiki/mediawiki/index.php?title=Infopedia:Protected_page&action=edit>Project:Protected 
page" links not to a information page but an editor box.
I didn't find any useful solutions from Google thus post here -- how 
may I edit the side bar?
