[Mediawiki-l] create account restriction

Hi all,

I am not so experienced in MediaWiki, so sorry, maybe a stupid
question bellow;-)

On our server we are using MediaWiki 1.6.10 because of PHP4. I
realized that the user can create new account just typing username
(i.e. leaving other field empty, including password!). Then he/she is
able to login and edit pages. That's I need to avoid.

I would like to configure my MediaWiki in this way: while creating an
account the user need to fill *all* items (username, password and
e-mail). Then he/she must confirm it from e-mail account. Then he/she
can login and edit pages on wiki...
