[Mediawiki-l] PHP 5.0.0 or higher is required. ABORTING.

I have installed mediawiki on Linux Redhat ES Release 4, and am getting 
this error, when I try to run the config: 

PHP 5.0.0 or higher is required. ABORTING.

When I check the PHP version with 

<?php
phpinfo();
?>
I get PHP Version 4.3.9, which is the highest version the Redhat offers on 
this platform (not sure if it is really PHP 5 or not, but suspect it may 
be 5, and is  just the way Redhat does their versions).
I have used an older version of MediaWiki  1.6.10 which works fine.  Any 
way to get past this ABORTING error to upgrade to the latest MediaWiki?
