[Mediawiki-l] Extensions that require iconv

I am running into an issue with extension for MediaWiki that require the
use of "iconv". My grasp of php is poor to say the least, though I am
working on it. Can someone let me know how to actually install it so
that MediaWiki extensions can then use it? I've got the "libiconv "
files downloaded, but need to know how to proceed.
