[Mediawiki-l] Problem with <nowiki> around XML markup

[Charlotte Moss]

the following Mediawiki text:

<nowiki>&lt;</nowiki>user<nowiki>&gt;</nowiki>

results in:

<user>

instead of what I want:

&lt;user&gt;

Does anyone know why nowiki does not work?
