[Mediawiki-l] Changing Default Search Parameters

Hello Mediawikians,
 
We are interested on globally changing the search parameters to include
Categories.  I found an article in the archives, but this dates back to
2004:

In the article it mentions having to change the database to override the
users settings.  Does anyone know if there is a different/better way of
accomplishing our goal?
