[Mediawiki-l] anchor hook

I am looking to make a extension that will parse the anchors on a page
and augment the css class according to various rules, similar to how
monobook does external websites --- though I wish to do this for
various extranet websites. Potentially I would like to have a peek at
interwiki links and caching the results based on some status
information.

I would rather not use a new tag to do this, which introduces a new
tag like <favicon>http://link.name.here</favicon>.

Exploring the page

through the source has not yielded any obvious answers to me. It seems
either I have to work on the text as a whole like a tidy would or
there is a method of hacking the skin that I can use. Then again the
various 'url' methods seem like they would get me close.
