[Mediawiki-l] Installation Error: Initialising "MediaWiki" Namespace...

Hello, I've looked in handbook and I've googled about and have not been
able to find out what I can do to finish installing version 1.6.6. (with
PHP-5.0.4, MySQL-4.1.12, and Apache-2.0.52 ).

When running through the initial configuration page
(localhost/wiki/config/index.php), it proceeds alright until it gets to
"Initialising "MediaWiki" Namespace..." whereupon it provides:
    (dbname) has a problem

    Sorry! This site is experiencing technical difficulties.

    Try waiting a few minutes and reloading.

    (Can't contact the database server: Unknown error (localhost))


Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction to address my problem.
