As a stopgap, user:Lupin on :en: made a version of user:Pilaf's LivePreview 
JS-script which works quite well off-line.

I couldn't find it quickly: you can probably save time by asking him 
directly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Lupin
