[Mediawiki-l] Image upload facilitation

Has anyone come up with a way or an extension to facilitate uploading
and inserting images into wiki pages?

Currently, "clicking the upload link, clicking browse, clicking my file,
clicking send, clicking save anyway (file size), and then going all the
way back to the page and remembering the exact name of the image page
created to embed the link into the wiki" is a bit long and prone to
errors during the process.

Of course I understand this is probably the best way to do it according
to the way mediawiki is designed, but given the popularity of AJAX
solutions right now, I was wondering if someone might have taken it upon
themselves to write something for mediawiki that would allow for an
easier method.

The icing on the cake would be for the user to be allowed to drag and
drop files directly from their operating system file browser into the
web browser page, and then have the javascript automatically handle
uploading that file to mediawiki's upload page and come back with the
proper link to write directly into the page that he/she was editing.

Wouldn't that be awesome? :)

I also understand everyone has limited time and resources, etc etc... I
just want to throw my request to the list, maybe it's already been done
and no one knows about it yet?

Best regards,

Laurent Chouinard
