Okay, that seemed to work.
So I shouldn't have pasted anything into wiki/skins/common/common.css ? 
Apparently it didn't do anything anyway.

Definitely try it without.  Then try control-F5 on your test page, or
clear your cache and re-load the page.

The text you copied is correct, and it ought to work just fine..
